Community Involvement

Cohen & Company believes that our success is greatly tied to the success of the communities in which we live and work, and that it is important for us to give back of our time and money. This belief is such an integral part of our culture that we look for every opportunity to encourage and support our staff in pursuing their civic and professional passions.

One of our flagship community effort involves serving for many years as a United Way Pacesetter. Our commitment as a Pacesetter organization helps jump-start United Way’s annual campaign by running our campaign earlier in the year as a model for others in the community. We also strive to achieve an ambitious goal of at least a five percent increase over our previous year’s results. We hold fundraising activities, offer an extra PTO day for contributions above a certain amount, and participate in the United Way's “Day of Caring” to volunteer in our communities.

Junior achievementMovemberHuman Society As our firm expands, so do the opportunities to make an impact on our communities. We are involved with more than 175 organizations and causes, such as the Ohio Society of CPA’s annual Financial Education Teaches Children Healthy Habits®, or FETCH!®, program. We participate in events such as “Movember” for men’s cancers and the annual Junior Achievement of Greater Cleveland’s Bowl-a-thon. Meaningful board involvement is also critical to us. We have assumed leadership roles in organizations such as the Humane Society of Greater Akron, The Wingspan Care Group, Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce, Northern Ohio Hemophilia Foundation, and Rotary District 6980 and the rotary clubs of Altamonte Springs and Winter Park, Florida.

The firm also provides substantial financial support in the way of sponsorships and donations to a variety of nonprofit events and organizations. In addition, in 1999 we launched the Cohen Community Foundation, in honor of our founder. The foundation is proud to support civic, art, cultural and entrepreneurial not-for-profit organizations that make a positive difference in our communities but in general do not have the backing of large, annual funding campaigns.
