Maria Shinn Bouck
Director
Maria is Director of Cohen Healthcare Consulting. With more than 14 years of healthcare consulting experience, her in-depth understanding of the internal workings of a medical operation and down-to-earth advice have made her an indispensible resource to her clients. In particular they look to Maria for expertise in RAC audits, charge master reviews, revenue modeling, physician practice management, CMS and payor regulatory research, documentation and coding compliance. Her experience extends to multiple healthcare settings, including independent multispecialty physician groups, MSOs, PHOs, hospitals, health systems, ambulatory surgery centers and physician billing companies. In addition, as a bioethicist, Maria sits on a hospital bioethics committee and assists with patient advisory.
Prior to her consulting activities, Maria spent four years managing the cardiology department of an area hospital and two years managing a physician billing company. She also has direct clinician experience, having spent eight years with the U.S. Naval Hospital Corps. Maria is an active member of multiple industry organizations including the American Academy of Professional Coders, American Academy of Ophthalmology Executives, American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), and Single Payor Action Network of Ohio. In addition to being a Certified Professional Coder, Maria is a Certified Documentation Specialist-3-M HealthCare and is Practice Management Institute CMOM eligible.
Maria holds a BA in Philosophy with Concentration in Bioethics from Cleveland State University. She studied nursing at Humboldt State University and attended the Naval Hospital Corps School. She is also trained in EMT II / Advanced Trauma Life Support. Maria and her husband live in Bay Village.
