Rob’s unmatched expertise related to the investment industry’s most complex tax matters makes him an invaluable business resource to investment adviser clients and the various products they manage. However, it’s the deep understanding of the nuances of both investment products and the tax law that truly sets him apart.
Beginning his public accounting career in 1999 working with publicly traded companies at a Big 4 firm, today Rob is a leader in Cohen & Company’s Investment Tax Services Group. He provides business, and tax consulting and compliance services to a diverse client base across investment management companies. Rob primarily works within the registered fund space, including mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), business development companies, and interval and tender offer funds. Several of these funds have unique tax structures, including funds structures as C corporations or REITs, and funds that use domestic or foreign blocker entities. In addition, Rob provides tax services to hedge funds, private equity and private credit funds, family investment partnerships and family offices, energy and infrastructure companies, digital asset funds and investment advisers. He works with start-up entities to multi-billion-dollar fund families and across most asset classes. Prior to focusing exclusively on investment companies, Rob also worked with real estate and other privately held businesses, business owners and high-net-worth individuals.
Rob is regularly called upon by clients and colleagues to serve as a technical resource for various items, including entity structuring, start-up and seeding of funds, RIC/REIT qualification considerations, taxation of investment products, Master Limited Partnership and other partnership investments, mergers and reorganizations, and foreign investments.
Rob is a resident of Willoughby Hills, Ohio, where he lives with his wife and three children.
